Sam Shepard, also known as Floating Points, is a producer/trackmaker/DJ considered one of the most intellectual figures in the electronic music scene, often mentioned alongside artists like Four Tet, Bonobo, and Caribou. Following the critically acclaimed 2019 album "Crush," he has expanded his activities to include collaborations with Pharoah Sanders on "Promises" and the ballet "Mere Mortals." Now, his debut album "Elaenia" is set to be released as a lavish 10th-anniversary edition.
This 2015 debut album, which fully showcases his talent as an electronic music composer and performer, features contributions from accomplished musicians such as Tom Skinner (Smile), Leo Taylor (The Invisible), UK-based bassist Susumu Mukai (who also performs as Zongamin), and Rachel Debibi Dessareni, who also sings in Herbert's band. The songs evoke a divine and aesthetic imagination in the listener. The album artwork uses a harmonics graph he created himself, and the drawing art is created with beams of light from fiber optic cables synchronized with a modular synthesizer, making the entire album a masterpiece that can be enjoyed as a single, comprehensive work of art.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary, a black vinyl edition of 'Eleania' will be released, featuring the previously digitally-only track "Precursor." In addition, a limited edition of 1000 copies worldwide, hand-numbered double LP waterfall vinyl will also be released. The double LP will include 'Eleania' with the added "Precursor," as well as 'Kuiper,' a sequel EP to 'Eleania' that has long been difficult to obtain—making it a truly deluxe package. Furthermore, to celebrate this anniversary, the original Japanese domestic CD edition of 'Eleania' will also be released. This edition will include a detailed booklet written by Mitsuru Ogawa.
